This autumn, EUMEPLAT partners are bringing the debate around media platforms and European culture and identity in several international conference around Europe.

Andrea Miconi, EUMEPLAT principal investigator from IULM University, took part in the ESA RN18 Mid-Term Conference on “Communication, Capitalism and Critique: Critical Media Sociology in the 21st Century”, organised by the European Sociological Association in Turin from 1st to 3rd September 2022. He presented the paper On the concept of value in the platform society (abstract available here at page 43) in the parallel session about Digital Labour and Platform Capitalism I, which took place on 1st September from 5 to 6pm CEST.

Tiziana Terranova, member of the EUMEPLAT Scientific Board, also took part in the Conference with a key-note speech on the Technosocial Question, while Peter Golding, also part of the Board, chaired several sessions of the Conference.

In the upcoming weeks, EUMEPLAT researchers will attend two more international conferences.

During the 3rd International Conference on Europe in Discourse “Tracing Identity through Values, History and Borders”, organised in Athens by the Hellenic American University from 23rd to 25th September, two sessions will feature the participation of EUMEPLAT team. Andrea Miconi and Sara Cannizzaro, also from IULM University, will take the floor in the strand Borders with a contribution on Europeanisation and media trust and in the post-pandemic age of neo-globalization, on September 23rd, from 12.30 to 12.50pm CEST. Immediately after, from 12.50 to 1.10pm CEST, they will join Nico Carpentier, Miloš Hroch and Vaia Doudaki from Charles University in the strand Values to discuss The diversity of discursive constructions of Europeanity and Europeanisation: A model of 19 approaches.

At the 9th European Communication Conference “Rethink Impact”, organised by ECREA and Aarhus University and taking place from 19th to 22nd October in Aarhus, the EUMEPLAT team will be involved in the session on Media platforms and Europeanization (22nd October, 9-10.30 am CET), chaired by Andrea Miconi who will also have an intervention on Three Strands of de-Europeanization. The same session will feature interventions by Sara Cannizzaro on Europeanisation, trust and media systems and by Nico Carpentier and Vaia Doudaki on Refugeedom and the struggle over the construction of Europeanity: A discourse-theoretical analysis of the documentary Along the Borders of Turkey and its YouTube comments.
