International Week 2023
University of Alicante, Spain
28th-31st March 2023
From March 28th to 31st, 2023, the University of Alicante’s School of Economics and Business organised its International Week 2023, hosting successful Higher Education Institutions from all over the world to engage and lecture the University staff members and students.
Throughout the week, fellowship, teaching exchanges, explorations into other’s home cultures, networking, and informative and enlightening lectures were organised.
This year, among the Guest Lectures, the University of Alicante invited Andrea Miconi, IULM associate professor and EUMEPLAT principal investigator, to deliver a lecture on “Is Netflix Creating a Common European Culture?“, on March 30th, from 12.45 to 2.15 pm.
This was the occasion to present some of the main findings from the Work Package 3 on Hegemony: Platformization of Video, and in particular from the deliverable 3.4 Catalogue of Best Practices and Main Obstacles to Europeanisation.
In particular, Miconi discussed the relationship between video platforms consumption and cultural Europeanization, by considering the most watched movies and TV-shows in Italian Video-On-Demand platforms (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play, Disney+, and iTunes) in the period from November 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022 and in light of the current literature about the effects of video platformization on the circulation of European contents.
Some insights from Work Package 2 on Fake News: Platformization of Journalism and the concepts of Europeanization and Platformization were also introduced during the lecture.
