On 21 and 22 September 2023, the EUMEPLAT partners met in Ankara, at Bilkent University premises, for the work packages meeting.

Each WP leader presented the lessons learnt from the finalised research work packages (NKUA for WP1 – Europeanisation: Lessons from Media History, ISCTE-IUL for WP2 – Fake News: Platformization of Journalism, NBU for WP3 – Hegemony: Platformization of Video and UOC for WP4 – Exclusion: Platformization of Media Representations).

Also the WP5 – Power: People and Platforms Task Forces (Surveillance and Resistance, Choice and Algorithms, Toxic Debates, Destructive Technologies and War, Gender in Societies) presented the main scenarios developed so far and exchanged with the other researchers about the expected results.

The project partners, and many Bilkent students, had also the chance to listen to Josef Trappel, Professor for Communication Policy and Media Economics, head of the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Salzburg, who specially delivered an open lecture on “Protecting Digital Freedoms: On the Road with Giants”.
